Magdeburger Verkehrsbetriebe GmbH & Co. KG (MVB) is investing heavily in the modernisation of local public transport in the state capital. The new ‘Flexity’ tram generation will be delivered from September. The operator has now presented some first impressions of the new vehicle.

Currently still in the final test phase at the Alstom plant in Bautzen, Saxony, the first two pre-series vehicles are to be transferred to Magdeburg in September.

‘With the new Flexity tram, we are taking another important step towards modern and sustainable mobility in Magdeburg. The vehicles are not only more comfortable and energy-efficient, but also offer our passengers more space,’ says Birgit Münster-Rendel, Managing Director of MVB.

MVB has produced a video showing the vehicles at the Alstom factory in Bautzen to give a first impression of the new generation of trams:

The new tram will be presented to the public in September at the big anniversary celebration to mark the 125th birthday of the electric tramway in Magdeburg.

‘The presentation of the new Flexity tram at the anniversary celebration is a special highlight. Passengers will be able to experience the new tram live for the first time and see the new comfort for themselves,’ continues Münster-Rendel.

However, it will be some time before they are used in daily scheduled services. In Magdeburg, the two vehicles will undergo important tests for approval in passenger service. Delivery of the series vehicles will follow from summer 2025. ‘These comprehensive tests are crucial to ensure that our new trams meet the highest safety and quality standards,’ adds Münster-Rendel.
