Bi-articulated trolleybuses for Prague and Bratislava

Two orders within a short time of each other for the new double-articulated trolleybus with electric equipment from Skoda and with the body of the Trollino 24 model from Solaris – this raised quite some attention in November 2021 and February 2022. Now the first pictures of the new trolleys can be seen.

Bratislava had ordered 16 such battery-trolleybuses. They will initially be used on the high-capacity line 201, where they will replace older articulated trolleybuses ( https://www.urban-transport-magazine.com/en/bratislava-contract-awarded-for-articulated-bi-articulated-trolleybuses/ ).

The vehicles have 60 seats and a total capacity of 160 passengers. They are powered by two traction motors with an output of 160 kW each. The additional traction batteries placed on the roof of the second carriage section are charged from the overhead line en route. Solaris delivered the first completed car body to Skoda in Plzen on 16 March 2023, where the electrical equipment will be mounted.

For the new battery trolleybus network under construction in the Czech capital Prague, an order for 20 double-articulated trolleybuses of the same model with a very similar configuration was received just over a year ago. (https://www.urban-transport-magazine.com/en/bi-articulated-trolleybuses-for-prague/ ). The first of these trolleybuses was only inspected by representatives of the DPP transport company at the manufacturer’s workshops. Delivery will take place shortly. The double-articulated trolleybuses are foreseen for use on line 119 Nádraží Veleslavín – Václav Havel Airport. They are also 24.7 metres long and offer 54 seats and a total capacity of 179 passengers plus 2 wheelchairs.
