The red Flexity low-floor tram has long since become an integral part of Vienna’s streetscape. 81 vehicles are already in operation in the city. A total of 119 vehicles were ordered from the manufacturer Alstom in 2015. Now the City of Vienna and the operator Wiener Linien are utilising the option to call up a further 27 trams out of the existing framework agreement.

Wiener Linien’s tram fleet currently comprises around 500 vehicles. The barrier-free Flexitys will increasingly replace the high-floor E2 trams over the next few years. Additional trams will also be needed for network extensions such as Line 12, Line 27 and Line 18. Delivery of the 27 additional vehicles will start in mid-2025 and will be completed by the end of 2026.

The Flexity trams are currently in service on lines 6, 11, 18, 71, 60, 49 and 46. The 80 vehicles have already covered almost ten million kilometres on the tram network. From next year, the trams will also run on lines D, 43 and 1.

With a length of 34 metres, the Flexity offers space for 211 passengers. Generous multi-purpose areas provide more space for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Other details include low energy consumption, exclusive LED lighting, various passenger information screens inside the vehicle and a digital cockpit with several touchscreens instead of analogue instruments.
